Welcome!  We welcome your family to St. John's Childcare.

From the very beginning, Infants are shaping their view of the world and their place in it. While allowing children to follow their own schedules, infants learn to build a strong foundation of trust in a loving and caring environment. We help little ones to develop core muscle groups through tummy time and strengthening exercises.

Once a child is mobile, they begin the steps to autonomy. The Tykes room encourages these steps by enhancing the development of large and small motor skills. They learn to explore the world around them through music, movement, drawing, and reading. Communication skills are encouraged through both sights and sounds.

Toddlers need a safe world rich with opportunities to explore and enjoy: to see, hear, feel, touch and move. Our teachers foster this development through conversations, books, songs and a great deal of listening and responding to their words. Nurturing connections teach toddlers how to form friendships, communicate emotions and needs, and how to deal with challenges.

The Preschool program is designed for each child to transition from the sensory-motor world of toddlers to an increasingly social world. Teachers guide children as they continue to communicate, to move purposely, to assess their independence and individuality, and to control their important bodily functions. With the use of well planned centers that allow for child choice and self-directed play, small groups and supportive teaching prepare children for future academic excellence.

Potty Training Policy

From the very beginning, Infants are shaping their view of the world and their place in it. While allowing children to follow their own schedules, infants learn to build a strong foundation of trust in a loving and caring environment. We help little ones to develop core muscle groups through tummy time and strengthening exercises.

The Tykes room is a place for children who are mobile and transitioning from infant to toddler.  Many FIRSTS happen here.  First foods, first words and first steps.  We find great joy in watching the children discover the world around them.  We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to watch these little miracles grow.  It is where we snuggle with a blanket and rock to sleep and where bumps and bruises, which there are many at this age, are hugged and kissed away.  Our Tykes room provides activities for development through music, movement, drawing and reading.  Communication skills are encouraged through both sights and sounds.

Toddlers are exuberant children with boundless curiosity and energy. They have a drive to explore everything and a wish for independence. In the toddler room, we strive to create a safe place for toddlers to explore and learn. We allow them to achieve independence by providing them the support to sit in a big chair, put on their own shoes, and eat independently. Toddlers start learning colors, animals, counting, the alphabet, and body parts. We read a lot and learn about Jesus’s love for us!

The Toddler Room is a place with an unending supply of things for toddlers to explore and a treehouse to play in. It is a place where boxes become castles or rocket ships and blocks are formed into caves for bears. We enjoy dance parties and dress up, singing and dinosaur books! One of our favorite past times is to watch the world go by through our big windows, especially the police cars and fire trucks! We love arts and crafts and getting messy!

Toddlers need a sense of predictability in the world around them, so we follow a schedule while adapting to the toddlers needs. If we are very tired, we may take nap a little bit earlier or if we are having a blast playing, we may take advantage of that and push snack back a few minutes! Finally, we work on sharing and using our words!

In the Preschool rooms we work on guided independence.  This is the time when your little one becomes a ‘big boy or big girl’.  Children in this room want to do everything for themselves and are beginning to realize that they can do most things with a little help or guidance.  The Preschool room is a place where we make messes but we all learn to clean up.  We are a structured room where your child will have daily tasks and responsibilities.  It is a place where a line of chairs becomes a train or a classroom of children becomes a flock of birds.  Imaginations run wild and we encourage this through various activities.  We work on letters, numbers, colors, sing songs and dance.  We laugh, play, and learn together.  This is a time of great social and emotional growth for your child.  We help guide your child in expressing their emotions and interacting with their friends. Children will learn prayers and songs, go home and teach you how to say and sing them.  Although it’s difficult to see your baby grow up so quickly you will love the Preschool room because this is where your child becomes potty trained. If you have any questions about our Potty Training Policy, contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
